PETALING JAYA, Aug 27 (Bernama) — Brisk sales of the Myvi as well as the Viva will put Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) in good stead to be the country’s biggest car seller this year.
Perodua managing director, Syed Hafiz Abu Bakar, said Perodua’s June sales of 16,831, the highest for any car company and its best performance since being set up 14 years ago, was testimony to this confidence.
For this year, sales of Myvi have been averaging between 7,500 and 9,000 units and that of Viva between 6,500 and 7,000, he told reporters after a ceremony to celebrate Merdeka here today.
He said that Perodua’s current market share was 34 percent, making it the number one car seller in Malaysia for both national and non-national car manufacturers.
With a humble beginning producing 40,000 cars annually when it started operations in 1994, the company’s current capacity was 200,000 cars, he said.
