KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 28): MBM Resources Bhd has entered into a joint-venture with Japan’s Hino Motors Ltd to establish a manufacturing plant in Malaysia.
It said on Friday that the plant would be located on a 42-acre site in Negeri Sembilan and will require an initial investment of RM140 million.
“The new plant, with an annual production capacity of approximately 10,000 units, will manufacture the full range of Hino products comprising small, medium and heavy duty trucks; and buses for the Malaysian market,†said MBM.
Under the agreement, MBM will hold a 42% stake in the JV while Hino Motor’s will hold the remaining 58% stake.
Hiro Motor’s president, Yoshio Shirai said the investment will help strengthen its market leadership in Malaysia. “This strategic investment to set up a manufacturing plant here, we expect, will further strengthen our market leadership in the commercial vehicle segment in Malaysia where there is a growing demand for Hino products,†he said.
Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2013 and completed by early 2014.
